BAKERSFIELDS OWLS

Good Morning!

Going through my files, I noticed that I had recorded the brood developments of two particular owl nests, the Great Horned Owl nest at Bakersfield campus at the Univ. of Calif. ( www.cs.csubak.edu ), and the Barn Owl nest in CA, which features Frida and Diego ( www.theowlcam.com ). Today, I'm sending some of my favorite shots from the Bakersfield nest. The family is gone now for this season, as all the chicks fledged successfully. As you will see from the last shot in this series, they straightened up the place before they left! I look forward to their return next season; they were a joy to watch as they developed from tiny balls of fluff into the magnificent image of their mother.

OWLS

This is the second owl nest that I've been watching - Frida and Diego, the Barn Owls. Their website is

Frida started out with 7 eggs, and ended up with a brood of 4. Unlike the Bakersfield bunch, they are still with Mama, and have a way to go before they fledged. Like the Snowy Owl, the Barn Owl has a most unusual appearance, as the arrangement of feathers gives it a "moonface" look, which is one of its main identifying features. The youngsters are starting to take on that same look, but have quite a way to go before they resemble their folks! They, like the Great Horned chicks, have their own "cuteness' factor, as you can see in these shots. Hope you enjoy them ! ! DaveKay

ANOTHER SAMPLER

Good Morning!

It's a beautiful day here! Lots of sunny blue skies - just the right kind of weather to get out and start on that backyard! After I get finished on the computer... LOL It'll get done - all in good time!

Got another grab bag of shots that cover several drives; lots of birds in this one. When the animals are scarce, and the trees are turning, the next thing to go to is the birds. Or insects... I've put labels on them to make more sense of it, and you know how I hate to put labels on things! LOL
