Not only had I forgotten about the Red Deer/Boar site, I also forgot who sponsors the site. So in light of this I'm going to post the following information and each of you can make your own decision about visiting or not.
The founder and operator of wildtiere-live.de is the German Hunting Association (Deutsche Jagdschutz-Verband, or DJV), the umbrella organization of the 16 German state hunting associations. Almost 300,000 hunters, or about 90% of all licensed hunters, are organized in the DJV throughout Germany. The state hunting associations are independent organizations, and are further divided into local groups and conservancy associations. The tasks and goals of the DJV, based in their articles of association, include the maintenance and promotion of all the branches of hunting, hunting customs, training and continuing education of hunters, and hunting literature. The umbrella organization also provides political representation for the hunting community at the national and international level.
An important part of their work is in the area of press and public relations. The DJV is committed to furthering a wider, clearer understanding of hunting among the general public, and to telling the public about the tasks that hunters perform. As part of the LERNORT NATUR initiative, hunters invite children and young people to join them in the preserve so that they can learn about conditions in nature first-hand. The DJV – a government-recognized conservancy association One of the main tasks of the DJV is the protection and maintenance of an animal population that is free-living and rich in species diversity, and to safeguard the basic living conditions of this population. In addition, they promote the goals of protecting nature and the environment, landscape conservation and the protection of animal species. For these reasons, the DJV has been recognized by the German government as an official nature conservancy association, in § 59 of the Federal Law on the Protection of Nature. Most of the state hunting associations have also received such recognition.
Job one: Active protection of nature What does the protection of Nature mean to hunters? A couple of examples will help make it clear. For one, hunters all over Germany help in the creation of biotopes. For example, the establishment of humid biotopes and fruit orchards helps keep rare plants and insect species from becoming extinct. Conservation measures and improvements of the biotope are also part of active nature protection. By creating thickets, copses, ponds and spawning waters, hunters help give endangered animals a new chance to find peace and protection. No other nature conservation association has invested so much of their own funds in the protection of nature and species. The voluntary work of the hunters alone is equivalent to a yearly outlay of 32 million Euros! So you see, hunters not only use nature, they also protect it.
