I also got the NGM FOrum mailing. I'm enraged. This after I read the CNN report about the Mountain Gorilla's in the Congo. Apparently rebels have entered their preserve, chased the security force out and are holed up with half the mountain gorilla population in the world...about 700. They think nothing of killing those magnificent creatures.
.
Thanks Gail480. If I hear of anything we can all do about this I'll post it here.

unless you live in the arid Southwest (including Texas). The new WALL to be built between Texas and Mexico straddles some very sensitive habitat--the habitat of two large wild cats native to northern Mexico and the southern parts of Texas: the jaguarundi and the ocelot. The jaguarundi was suspected of being extinct in South Texas until a truck hit one and killed it back in 1988. Probably that kind of accident would not have taken out the last of jaguarundis, only one among the last. Ocelots have been diminishing in number, but are not believed to be close to extinction. The WALL, though, will split the habitat of both cats in half and that could be the final straw. Some administration spokesperson actually said that it would be environmentally more effective to let the species that make the trip across the border die out than to let the "pollution of illegal immigrants" damage our environment. Aside from that, development is picking up not far from the Aransas Wildlife Refuge in the Coastal Bend of Texas. That's the winter home of the largest flock of whooping cranes and other creatures. We are killing the cats and the birds to make "summer" homes for the wealthy. I can no more. It is time to watch the pond and thank God for the stewards of that one piece of Botswana called Mashatu.
Thank you Palmer for passing this on
Please write letters, send emails. We as a whole must do all we can to stop all the insanity. We must be the voice of each and every animal that can't speak for itself.
